Pre-wedding Photo Shoot

Two of our wonderful friends decided to get married this summer, so we offered them a pre-wedding photo session. Although very shy, we managed to convince them that a pre-wedding shoot is a must for any weddings ;) We had the session very late afternoon along a narrow street close to Place des Nations where there were lots of foliage, providing texture to the background as well as privacy for us to get on with our business.

I was lucky enough to be invited for a Malay wedding recently. Since the wedding hall provided photography service as well as catering, I just brought along my camera to take a few memory snaps of the cultural event. In Malay weddings, the groom is considered the king of the day. Personally, the logic behind this is because the bride will be considered the ruler henceforth. Probably this is true in any culture ;-)

Summer is almost coming to an end here in Geneva as we are fast approaching September. Here are some flower shots that we would like to share with you. We recently discovered one of the smallest park in Geneva but it has a wide variety of flowers, plants and it even has a small water pond with fishes :) We spent a couple of hours enjoying the sun and photographing the flowers.

Going on vacation

Photography is hard work but we enjoy every minute of it! So we're off to a month long vacation (we will bring along our cameras) and we will be back ..

.. mid July with our batteries fully charged :) Although we will have very limited internet access, do continue to send us messages or email and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Photos Around Geneva in Autumn

Towards the end of last year, we entered a photo competition organized by the Geneva Tourism Board. Here is a showcase of our entries in this competition.

We didn't specifically go out to take these photos for the photo competition. Instead we rummaged around in our hard disk and found some images that were suitable for the competition.

This was taken at Parc Bertrand, Geneva during the annual Hot Air Balloon festival. We could ride in one of the balloons for free but it was tied down. Well better than nothing.

This is a night shot of the Batiment des Forces-Motrices, Geneva. It used to be a factory back in 1886 but since 1997 it is an opera house open to the public for festive, promotional or cultural events.

This was not taken in Japan but at the World Health Organization (WHO) Japanese garden. The color of the leaves turn bright red every autumn.

This is another shot of Geneva's many parks right in the heart of the city.

A night shot taken near Geneva's airport just after dusk.

And finally, another night shot of Geneva taken from the roof of an apartment building. Incidentally, this photo won a prize.

What is the shutter count of your Canon DSLR?

Knowing the shutter count of your Canon DSLR is important so that you are aware if your camera shutter has reached its limits and it's time to change it i.e. get a new camera or replace the shutter curtains. This is even more important if you are buying a second hand camera, to know beforehand how long before the camera dies.

There is a neat little application for windows that does just that. When installed EOSInfo from astrojargon shows you the shutter count on your camera (you have to connect your camera to your PC). But what I really like about this application is that you can set your copyright info straight on the camera as well. This means that each picture that you take will be embedded with this information.

In general, Canon cameras lasts between 50,000 (low end older models) to 300,000 (high end pro cameras) clicks. You can check out a more comprehensive list here.

But before installing this application, do check out the astrojargon website to find out if your Canon camera is supported.

Eat your heart out Harry Potter fans

Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it.

Seeing how popular Harry Potter was, we were inspired to have a themed photo session based loosely on the movie. So we commissioned a model who kinda look like Hermione Granger and we dressed her up in typical Hogwarts school attire (including the striped tie).

We found a park in Geneva with a small wooded area and large trees that went well with the overall theme.

Although it was daytime, we toned down the ambient lighting to make it dark and moody while lighting Hermione with a couple of flashes on an umbrella.

What's a Harry Potter movie without sorcery and magic. We managed to get hold of a "magic wand" from our collection of chopsticks. Since we were out of magic dust, the wispy glow from the magic wand was done through post-processing in Photoshop.

Although we had a couple of funny stares from the local residents, Geneva is really perfect for such a photo shoot as you can find parks at every corner of the city.

The photo session lasted about an hour and overall we were very pleased with the results from the photo shoot and the model who was absolutely fantastic (i.e. patient) and very easy to work with.
